Welcome back! I am currently producing my second indie short film and I've had the pleasure of working on the upcoming short film based on last year's movie Spellbound.
That is why this month, I'm dedicating the newsletter to (animated) short film production.
I've worked in feature film in the animation industry for over 10 years and I have worked in may parts of the production pipeline from when the director is working with writers on the script, to when they bring on artists to start sketching out the first images, and so forth. What I've learned from speaking and working with people who have ideas and concepts of ideas and projects that they want to be an animated production, they rush past the storytelling part. They often over simplify their story and speed right to animation software and tools to get their thing made.
It doesn't matter how "good" your project looks if the story isn't strong if it is a simple story, people will close it, walk out, or just stop paying attention. I want your work to be remembered for it good, not for its... "ehh.. it was ok, I guess".
This year, I want to help people in a truly impactful way and provide tangible results. I've provided a few resources this month for you and your friends.
